During this delay in publication of the promised major edition of Ptolemy, the scholars at St. Dié published their first book, the Cosmographiæ Introductio of Martin Waldseemüller, sponsored by the duke.

Waldseemüller and his colleagues printed this introduction to cosmography for the use of students in 1507 as a companion to the two world maps.
