This map of Russia by Giacamo Gastaldi, the leading Italian
cartographer of the mid-sixteenth century, accompanied the first
translation of Herberstein’s account of his two embassies to
Russia on behalf of the Holy Roman Empire in 1516 and 1519. It
was first published in Vienna in a Latin edition of 1549.
